From Hair To Eternity

Like many women, I spend a lot to time thinking about my hair.  We have a love/hate relationship.  One minute it's my crowning glory, the next day it's the bane of my existence.  I can't be 100% sure what each day will bring, but based on the fact that it's taking forever to dry and doing some strange flippy things - I think I know where this is headed. (pun unintended)

Like many girls of my generation, I fell prey to the Dorothy Hamill spell and convinced my mother to let me cut my hair when I was about 7 years old.  That began years of short hair.  I'm pretty sure it stayed short for so long because every time it would start to grow out, my mother would get fed up with that awkward in between stage and cut it all off again.  I even went through a pixie stage in middle school.  Except for a few trials at a bob, I usually keep it shoulder length or longer now.

Sometimes I wear it straight.  Most of the time I let it just do it's natural curling and waving thing.

Usually it's some shade of red.  But I have played with being blond, and brunette.

But all things aside - the frizzy days, the flat days, the what on earth is it doing? days - I love my hair. It's thick. It's naturally wavy to curly. Second only to my eyes, it is the feature I get the most compliments.  Oh sure, it's got a little more gray than I like to admit; but thanks to a box of hair color every now and then, no one has to know exactly how much.

How do you feel about your hair?

  1. I cut off all my hair, in a short-short pixie cut and that's when my hubby proposed to me (he loves short hair but that was just a coincidence). We got married 6 months later. I had the shortest bridal hair appointment with my hairdresser, in history!

Not looking forward to the swimming season and all the ravages chlorine will do to my finally perfected hair color :(

    1. Oh. I forgot about summer sun and swim season. I was just considering taking my hair to a brighter red with some highlights. Hmm.. Nope. I'm doing it. I'll just have to be careful with it. : )

    2. My hairdresser (correction, hair genius) recommends wetting my hair and maybe even applying some oil or conditioning cream to it before taking that dip. Dry hair apparently absorbs the chemicals in the pool a lot faster and a lot more. Just FYI :)

  2. I despise my hair :-)
In fact, the whole idea I started blogging was with my hair and still hate it :-) http://journeyofmylifendestiny.blogspot.com/2011/10/change-that-i-have-in-mind-just-doesnt.html

I wish I turned back the time and had my old hair back. Not the greatest but at least much better than now. –I am jealous of your hair :-)

    1. OH NO! Since that was October I hope the perm has relaxed and started growing out. I think a lot of us have that hair disaster story. I know I do!

    2. You would think so! My hair is so fine and still frizzy! I hid it by tying it up ...:-(

  4. I have come to love my hair! Becoming natural with it has really made appreciate it - especially since learning some new styles. I regularly get compliments on my hair, too.

    1. Awesome! What inspired you to become natural with it? Were you just tired of dealing with all the work to keep it up, or was it something else?

  5. My mother never let me cut my hair because she was worried what happened to my cousin would happen to me. My cousin had a lot of really thick long hair but she kept cutting and coloring it until it's basically frail, thin, and all but gone. So, as one hair dresser described my hair, it's "so virgin!" I've only done long layers to add a bit of shape. No color, never past my shoulders. Sometimes I wonder what it would look, but most of the time I'm in love with my wavy brunette locks. They make me happy. (: I think it's great you're happy with your hair!
