Sunday Inspiration: Dwell

Dwelling in God.  It's not about busyness.  It's not a long to-do list.  It's not even a long "don't do" list.   It isn't constant working and striving.

It's resting there.  Finding peace there.  It's just BEING there in His presence.

May you enjoy His peace and rest today, friends.

Get Some Rest

"Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat"...

Do you ever feel this way?  Especially this time a year with all the hustle and bustle of the holidays? Yes, me too!  Shopping, wrapping, decorating, baking, cleaning, entertaining, visiting...  it can be down right exhausting.  And there truly are days when I feel as if I don't even have time to eat.

Those are the days I can almost feel the Spirit whispering to me the same words Jesus says to the apostles.  'Come with me by yourself to a quiet place and get some rest.”

God still calls us to come away with Him to a quiet place and rest in His presence.  To press pause and rejuvenate our souls.

A "Certain" Place

"When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep." ~ Genesis 28:11

I find it interesting that the verse states "a certain place".  Not just - 'he stopped for the night because the sun had set'.  A certain place.  He had come to a spot where he could safely and comfortably stop his journey and get some rest.

What place?  A specific stage along his journey? A place shown to him?

He didn't stop just any random spot.  He didn't stop just because he felt tired.  He kept going until he reached a "certain place".

Certain: adjective
1) specific, but not explicitly named or stated
2) known for sure; established beyond doubt

When we come to a "certain" place - we can also find rest.

A place where we are certain where our strength comes from.  Certain where our hope lies.  Certain we are loved.  Certain of grace.

When we are certain of our God and certain who we are in Him.  Even when the sun sets. When we are tired and the journey is long.

We can stop and find rest.

Renew and Refresh

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” ~ Luke 10:41-42

Martha had company arriving.  There was food to prepare.  Cleaning to be done.  Shopping to complete.

Sound familiar?

It's easy to get caught up in all the "To Do's" of the Christmas season.

To feel overwhelmed with all the cleaning, shopping, wrapping, baking, entertaining, visiting, etc, etc, etc that "needs" to be done during this time of year.

But stop...

Imagine Jesus leaning close, looking patiently into your eyes, and telling you..  "You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed - or indeed only one.  Chose what is better, and it will not be taken from you."

Rest in Him.  Take time from your busy schedule to sit quietly in His presence.  Read His Word.  Talk with Him.  Remember what the season is really about.

Renew and refresh your soul.

Be STILL!

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.  ~ Exodus 14:14

All the busyness, the chaos, the activity.

Be Still!

Trying to do things my way - according to my agenda - rather than according to His plan.

Be Still!

The Lord will fight for you - when you stop fighting against Him.

Be still!

In Him, the battle is already won.

Be still!

Stop.  Seek His Will.  Rest in Him.

He will fight for you.

You need only to be still.
