That One Thing

In our women's Bible study this past week, we focused on Eve. Her creation.  Her role as companion, partner, and helper.  The fall.

Many of us (especially we women) love to focus on her role in the first sin.  That temptation and the forbidden fruit. We blame Eve for our monthly cycles, hormonal rages, and pains.  We blame her for sin, pain, and evil in the world.  We find ourselves feeling a bit superior to that weak woman in the garden who took the forbidden fruit and shared it with her mate.

Eve was able to be tempted into sin because she allowed her focus to be turned to the one thing God had denied her, rather than focusing on everything He had given to her.  She was surrounded by a garden full of delicious fruits.  But the center of attention and desire became the one she was not allowed to have.

And here's the thing... haven't we all been there at some point?

We focus on what we think we need or are missing out on rather than on all the blessings constantly being bestowed on us.

The answer to this stumbling block?

Gratitude!

Taking constant inventory of everything good and wonderful which has been showered on us. Learning to be content with what we have rather than always looking for what we don't.  Learning to find the blessing and the joy in any circumstance.

Spirit of Gratitude: March 15

TODAY I AM THANKFUL FOR:

Beautiful fresh eggs from the girls

Beginning to plan a summer vacation
Going out for pizza with the whole family
The man of the house rubbing my shoulders and neck when I have a headache
The forecast for a warm, sunny weekend
Purging some of our clutter
Clear blue sky without a cloud in sight

30 Days of Gratitude and Thanksgiving: Day 1 (Thankful Thursday)

Thursday is the day when I pause to take a few minutes and just soak in all the blessings which have been poured over me during the past week. For the month of November I am going to focus on giving thanks for each of the blessings in my life. Each day will include a post listing at few things I am thankful for. The purpose being to help me foster and develop a spirit of gratitude and praise into my life.

So, it seems only fitting that the first day of November falls on a thankful Thursday to start things off on the right foot.

I AM THANKFUL FOR:

  1. God's grace
  2. The man of the house
  3. The female offspring
  4. The male offspring
  5. The grand baby
  6. My sisters
  7. My parents
  8. Autumn leaves in full color
  9. The smell of coffee brewing
  10. Bright blue skies
  11. Lazy weekend mornings
  12. Books
  13. The quiet of the morning while the house is still
  14. The smell of fresh picked herbs
  15. Watching clouds scurry across the night sky

November: 30 Days of Gratitude and Thanksgiving

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! ~ Psalm 95:2

For the month of November I am going to focus on giving thanks for each of the blessings in my life.  Each day will include a post listing at few things I am thankful for.  The purpose being to help me foster and develop a spirit of gratitude and praise into my life.

It is my prayer that each of you will chime in along the way and share a few things you are grateful for also.
