Three Things: I Like About Autumn

Autumn - it's almost official!!  Today is the last day of summer - so if you're a summer person, soak up every last minute of today.  I, however, am all about the Fall.  And I think the weather agrees with me, because it is bright, sunny, and cool here this morning.  Fall is my very favorite season (with spring following in a close second place).

I can't imagine what's NOT to like about Autumn.  The leaves changing color!  Football season! The Man of the House and I both have Autumn birthdays!  But here are three of my favorite things about it:

1) Cooler Weather: I don't tolerate heat well.  And anything over 80 degrees is just TOO HOT.  I love the cooler nights and comfortable days that come with Autumn.  If I could find somewhere that the climate was like this all year - I would seriously consider moving!  Also, the cooler weather brings us to ...

2) Boots: I love wearing my boots.  Riding boots, high boots, ankle boots.  I think I own about 5 pairs right now.  I wear them with jeans.  With skirts.  With dresses.  I wear them pretty much all the time once the weather cools.  (I'm wearing them today!) Flip flops are all well and good - but give me my boots!

3) Anything Pumpkin!: Yep, I'm one of those crazy pumpkin people!  Carving them into jack o lanterns.  Pumpkin coffee.  Pumpkin cheese cake.  Pumpkin muffins.  Pumpkin pie.  Pumpkin bread.  Those little pumpkin candies they put out with the candy corn. I love pumpkin.  Funny thing is... it only tastes right between Labor Day and Thanksgiving.  Any other time of year, it's just... meh.

Wooly Worm Weather

The weather is so wacky right now.  After a cooler than normal, very very wet summer - we have entered into a warmer than usual fall.   It seems even the wooly worms are confused!

Wait...

Let me back up a bit.

For those of y'all not from around here - wooly worms (aka: wooly bear caterpillars) are fuzzy little caterpillar creatures.  They are typically banded with black and brown stripes, which some folks in these parts believe can predict the weather for the coming winter.  Why, just north of here - there's even an entire festival dedicated to these furry little cuties!

Problem is... we are spotting wooly worms with all varieties of color!  I've seen banded ones which were mostly black, banded ones that are mostly brown, and solid brown ones.  The Man of the House even says he saw a "blond" one!

Have you spotted any wooly worms around?  What did yours look like?

Thankful Thursday: September 13

Another week has come, and is just about gone!  It's nice to take a few minutes and just soak up all the goodness which has been heaped upon me again this week.

This Week I Am Thankful For:
  • Cooler Weather:  I haven't run the air conditioner all week!  The days have been comfortable and the nights are bordering on chilly.  Fall is in the air and I am loving every minute!
  • Fall Softball Season:  The Man of the House is a happy fellow when he's playing softball a few nights a week.  And seeing the Man of the House happy makes me happy!
  • Homemade Pies:  The female offspring has been in a baking mood recently.  And we are reaping the rewards of her efforts - such as apple pie and peach cobbler.  Yum!

What are you thankful for?  Please share in the comments section.  OR - even better: write your own "Thankful Thursday" post and share the link in the comments.  And I would be very thankful if you also included a mention and a link back to this blog somewhere in your post.  <<-- and that boys and girls is what we call a shameless plug! ;0)
