NOT A Hard Boiled Egg

Perhaps someone did it on purpose because they thought it would be funny.

Or maybe the carton currently being filled was topped out and someone was just too lazy to get out another one, so they just found the first carton with an empty space and use it.

Maybe someone just didn't care which was the freshest, currently being filled carton and just grabbed one and stuck an egg into it.

Whatever the circumstances were, they led to this.

This morning, I pulled out my stash of hard boiled eggs to shell a couple of them for my breakfast.  The first one cracked as usual and peeled easily.  The second cracked easily - and began to seep raw egg all over my fingers and the napkin I was peeling over.  That was NOT a hard boiled egg.

To say the least - it took me by surprise.  To be more accurate, I was frustrated and annoyed due to a) the waste of a perfectly good egg, and b) having to clean up the mess.

It's A Mystery To Me

I do not understand the brain of a 13 year old boy.  It makes absolutely no sense to me at all.  That thought process is irrational, illogical, sometimes lazy, and sometimes gross. I will never understand how the 13 year old boy brain works.

There are times it even makes it difficult to like the boy carrying around that mystery brain very much.  I know you're not supposed to say that.  As a mother - we are supposed to love our children unconditionally.  And I do.  I love The Little Man.  Some days I just don't like the things he does very much.

I find myself feeling frustrated, and confused.  Baffled and impatient.  I find myself saying "WHAT were you thinking?" far more times than I ever imagined possible.  To which the response is usually either a blank, deer in the headlights look.  Or a dumb-founded "I don't know" or "Nothing".  Which only succeeds in making the frustration, confusion, bafflement, and impatience worse.

In our latest episode - we find The Little Man coming home from school and deciding he needs not one, but Two egg sandwiches.  (Why two?  Why not one?  Another great mystery of the 13 year old male universe.  The answer to this one lies somewhere in the bottomless pit of the 13 year old male stomach - and THAT is enough of a topic for an entire other blog post)  He chose to cook up these particular eggs quickly in the microwave.  This I discovered when I heard the loud popping sound coming from the microwave.  But somehow my cries to "get the eggs out of the microwave and see if it needs cleaned out" were somehow heard by the 13 year old male as "take the eggs out of the microwave and throw them in the trash, completely wasting good food!"

I find myself completely at a loss.  No idea what is going on in there, or how to deal with it.

Target Missed the Spot Today!

I am frustrated. I don't like being frustrated.  And I was a little embarrassed too.  I don't like being embarrassed either.  What happened you ask?  Well, let me tell you...

Today I made my regular Monday shopping trip to Target.  And for the first time the cashier and manage refused to take several of my coupons!!

I was using coupons from yesterday's paper for Tide and Q-tips.  The coupons did not specify a certain size had to be purchased to use the coupons.  And they did not state that trial sizes were excluded from the coupon.  But they refused to accept them because I was purchaseing travel sized items.  I have used this type of coupon in the past with no problem.

And yes, the register popped up a little notice that was along the lines of "if item is included please press accept" or something along those lines.  They said they couldn't do that because it was against policy.  Please!!  I've seen the cashiers do that literally dozens of times when it popped up for other coupons and not even blink over it.  Policy, my foot!!  He just didn't want to take my coupons for the travel size.

I typically enjoy shopping at Target.  And one of the reasons is because of how they accept coupons.  Even allowing customers to use one manufacturer's coupon and one store coupon on the same item.  It's an important part of my strategy to save money and make the most out of our grocery budget.

But today's experience left me annoyed, frustrated, and yes - a little embarrassed.  AND will have me carefully considering how much of my business Target will be getting in the future.
