Three Things: I Should Do This Week

I have been mostly off the grid for the past 2 weeks.  First I flew out to Oklahoma to visit my youngest sister and her family (had a great time! more on that later!) Then we did a 2 day road trip back here (more good times. Again.. more on that later)  where she stayed with me for a few days.  Things are finally back to "normal" routine, but there's lots of catching up to be done!  Here are three things I need to do this week:

1) Catch up on blog posts!  So much to write... so little time! Especially with what all else I need to get done this week.

2) Catch up on laundry:  After almost 2 weeks it really starts piling up.  This should take most of the week to get things caught up.

3)  Remember to return my library books: Which are already overdue.  Because they were due while I was gone.  And I forgot to return them before I left.  Oops!!

Volunteerism?

I'm seriously considering volunteering at my local library a few hours a week.

It makes sense.  I love books.  I love book stores and libraries. I'm pretty sure the bookstore doesn't use any volunteers. So the library is a good match.

And  part of me is hoping that maybe they'll let me work off some of my library fines.  Just kidding.  I don't have any library fines.  At least not at the moment.

If I decide to do this, the hardest part might be trying to not bring all the books home with me at the end of my shift each week! Which I think is the same reason some people can't volunteer at animal shelters.

Do you volunteer anywhere? Tell us about it in the comments!

Reality Rewind: Long Overdue

Revisiting a favorite post from the past... Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure the local library hates me.  They probably cringe when they see me heading toward the checkout desk, or see that a book I requested if available for me to take home.

This is because it is a rare occurrence that I get books returned to them by the actual due date.  Usually I'm at least a few days late getting them back.  It's not even a rare occurrence for the items to be a week or two overdue before I get around to returning them.

I'm not proud of this.  It's just a fact.

If I could limit myself in the number of books I allow myself to check out at one time - that might help.  Or if I remembered to keep track of the little receipt they give letting you know when each book is due.  Or if I took advantage of the email or text alerts they provide to remind you that the due date is approaching.  Heck... there's no real good reason why I should be so late all the time.

On second thought - maybe they don't hate me.  It's entirely possible that all my overdue fines have helped keep the library up and running for all these years.  I've certainly paid plenty of them.  I think there was one time I may have been able to buy the paperback copy of the book for less than I paid in late fees.  Probably more than once.  Come to think of it, at this point there should maybe be a new wing named after me!  (Or at the very least, a shelf!)
