Waiting to be Lifted

"I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand"
 ~ Psalm 40: 1-2

What is easier to lift?   A child squirming, and fussing - or a child sitting patiently with arms lifted to you?

The second one, right?

But me... I'm not so good at the "waited patiently" part.

I try to wait on the Lord.  I try to trust.  To pray.  To believe.

But I still find myself trying to go my own way.  To handle things my own way.  To do my own thing.

When all I really have to do is wait patiently and cry out to the Lord.  He will hear me and show me the way.  He will lift me and give me a firm place to stand.

If only I can learn to wait patiently for His will and His way.  Not mine.

  1. You just described me perfectly. I am His squirmy child who needs to learn to be still and wait patiently for my Father.

  2. Oh, this so applies to me, too!! Thanks for the reminder that there's joy to be found in waiting!!!

    1. Seems to apply to many of us! I guess it shows we are all just works in progress. Happy New Year!
