When You Choke on Your Salad

Last night I choked on a piece of apple in my salad...

It wasn't as bad as it could have been.  I was able to breath the whole time.  But that little chunk of honeycrisp was wedged right between my tonsils for a good minute or two and didn't want to move.  Although finally... finally... I managed to cough and clear and swallow it down.  It's all good.

Or is it?

Shortly after clearing the apple my throat started hurting.  Right at the back, behind my tonsils.  Right where that piece of apple had tried to set up shop.  It was very irritated and scratchy. Drank some cold water, ate some yogurt and figured it would be gone by morning.

Wrong!

Apparently that choking episode gave me a nice little abrasion back there.  And today it's as sore and scratchy as last night.  Even feels a little swollen.  You know.. like when your tonsils are swollen.  You don't know?  Well trust me.. I've had enough strep throat and tonsillitis in my life to know... and this is what swollen tonsils feel like.

I swallowed a spoonful of honey - which helped a little.  For a very short time.  Now I am sipping some warm tea with plenty of honey in it.  And I might have someone bring me an icy drink.  (I'm thinking frapp, milk shake, or slushy)

  1. Yikes! So glad you could breathe the whole time. I so know that irritating little scratch in the back of the throat. I think a frozen drink is definitely worth a try. If it doesn't help, at least you get a little treat and that's always a plus!! :)
