Rain, Rain... Go Away

It has been raining around here. Like... a lot.  Every day for at least the past week.  Not just a lot.  A LOT.  As in - "maybe we should give some serious thought to building that ark" rain.

With a chance of more rain in the forecast for every day this week.

The first day of the endless rainfall took down our little crab apple tree in the front yard.

A couple of months ago the Female Offspring's boyfriend asked me if the tree was leaning and I said "I don't think so".  Apparently... I was wrong.

I'm sad that it's gone.  This tree was a great tree.  It was pretty when it bloomed in the spring. Or when it was covered in snow during the winter.  It was nice and shady in the summer.  And a favorite climbing tree of both offspring and the grand kid.

The blessing in this story is that it's the smallest tree in the yard.  Too small to reach any of the cars or the house, so no damage was done.

Now, we just need it to stop raining long enough for the Man of the House to be able to cut it up and cart it off.

There has been a lot of flooding in the area.  And just south of here, they were dealing with some mudslides the other night.  Which makes me feel very blessed that one  small tree falling and having to take the long way around to go get my hair cut due to a closed road was the worst we had to deal with.

Now, I'm just praying for a days of sunshine so the ground can dry out a bit and the river levels can start dropping.

Washed Away!

No.  I wasn't really washed away.  But as the outer bands of Tropical storm Andrea swept through late Friday afternoon and into the evening, we had some heavy rainfall.  One torrential downpour late in the afternoon had me quite nervous for a while.

That's not a creek or river - that's the road behind our house!
You might be able to make out the mailbox through all the pouring rain.
A slightly clearer picture of flooded street
You can also see the flooding in the field across street below our house

Water pouring down driveway and into grass and landscaping mulch

The positive side is that everything is nice and green from all the rain.  And the pollen got washed out of the air (for a little while at least)

It's (mostly) OK

Linking up with A Complete Waste of Makeup for It's OK Thursday

IT'S OK...

That sometimes I just want an hour or two alone

To hope it really does snow so I have a reason to be lazy and just write and craft all day

To let your kid cut school the day after exams

To start getting ready to go to the gym and decide to forget it because it's rainy, cold, and you have other things to get done.

To have a half dozen (or more) partially completed crochet, craft, and DIY projects

That there are two baskets of clean laundry waiting to be folded

Rain On My Parade

Out my living room window the rain is coming down.

Pouring rain.

Raining cats and dogs.

Raining pitchforks and hammer handles.

Monsoon-esque rain.

The type of rain that calls for curling up on the couch with a cup of tea and a book for the afternoon.  Or do some crochet and watch some shows I've had on the DVR for a while.

The kind of rain that makes me not want to leave the house for any reason.

Of course, just as the heavens open up and the bottom falls out - this is the time that the dog starts whining to go out.  Now.  In the midst of the downpour.  And apparently he needs to go right now!

It also happens to be a day when I need to run to the store and the post office.  And take the male offspring to his guitar lesson.

So, I set the book aside.  Give the crochet hooks a longing look.  And forget the tea.

I resign myself to the fact that my hair is going to be a mess today, no matter what I do.

I put away the cute shoes; because I know my feet are going to get soaked.

I take a deep breath, pull up the hood on my rain jacket, and brave the rain...

Thankful Thursday: July 12

If I had to write this yesterday, it would have been a challenge.  Yesterday was one of those stressful, overwhelmed, feeling in-over-my-head kind of days.  Fortunately, today seems to have dawned clearer and calmer.  And I can see the blessings before me:

A Patient and Supportive Husband! While I was at my wit's end yesterday, he was my rock!  He was my calm in the storm.  And he even made a run to the store at 9pm to pick up more printer ink for me.

A Break in the Heat Wave After way too many days of near 100 degree temperatures, we are finally enjoying a break to the heat and a little rain for the veggie plants!
