You Don't Know What You've Got 'Til It's Gone

If you had asked me this time last week - I would have told you that I don't really use our microwave all that often.  That was before it decided to stop heating anything.  And left a big empty void in our lives.

Ok...  that might be is definitely over dramatizing the situation a tiny bit. (something I happen to do very well)

However, I did learn that I rely on that little piece of technology much more than I thought I did.  Like when my coffee went cold and I wasn't able to do a quick 30 second reheat.  And when I wanted to quickly steam a bag of frozen peas to go with dinner.  Which suddenly became a whole thing involving pots and a steamer basket.  And when I wanted to warm some left over chili for lunch but the microwave said...

(You're welcome for that awesome reference.  Sometimes I'm all 1990s cool like that).

Not to mention that I now had nothing on which to set my basket full of scented wax melts!  Which reminds me... did I show y'all my cute new little wax burner?  This was a thrift store find which made me super happy.  Because A) I love wax burners... and  2) because... Bees.

Any way.., back to the original story.  Fortunately after a little online searching and a little help from Amazon Prime, a new microwave arrived at our door yesterday.

Sadly, it was about an hour after I had to heat up that chili the "old fashioned" way.  But that's ok.  It's good to have to rough it sometimes... keeps me grounded.

And speaking of "grounded"...  the man who used to ground me a LOT when I was young (I probably deserved most of it) is turning 70 years young today.  Happy Birthday, Dad!

When Things Get Messy

My house is a mess, y'all.   Not "kind of messy".  A big ol' embarrassing mess.  Pretty much a disaster area.

Ok - no, it's not that bad!!
Nothing much is getting done around here.  I am neglecting the housework while I try to push through to complete a few big orders facing deadlines.  (And not making the kind of progress I would like to see).  Meanwhile,  things are piling up around me.

I keep nagging at the offspring to help with keeping the kitchen clean.  They do the bare minimum to be able to say they did what was asked.

I'm dangerously close to running out of clean laundry.  And the Man of the House may or may not be rewearing socks.

Something is going to have to give soon.  I feel stretched too thin and on the edge of that place where I just might snap soon.

When Things Get Busy

Y'all - Things. Just. Got. Busy. In that "this is a very exciting opportunity - I must have been crazy to take this on" kinda way.

Now, sure - given the nature of what I do, it might seem silly to call it "busy". I mean, my busy probably just looks like a lot of time spent on the couch watching movies, every season of 30 Rock, or Disney cartoons.  And that's not exactly an unfair observation. (Do I have a great job or what? Yep!)

It's not exactly a fair observation either.  Just because I am sitting in the comfort of my own home doesn't mean I'm not hard at work. I still have projects to complete.  Deadlines.  Expectations to be met.

It means I can get easily distracted from the family life going on around me. Or worse - frustrated by it when it distracts me from the work I am trying to get done.

I have to remember to be intentional about making time to set the work aside and be present with the ones I love.  To turn away from the work from time to time and be here.  With them.  Focused.

And whole I'm at it - to take time for myself.  To unwind.  To relax.  To pray.  To read.   To refresh and renew.

And then...  back to work!

Three Things: I Want To Do This Year

I didn't make any actual resolutions for this year, choosing instead to focus on one word to better myself and my life throughout the year.  That doesn't mean I don't have some goals I want to accomplish this year!  Here are just three of the things I want to do this year:

1)  HAVE MORE FUN WITH THE MAN OF THE HOUSE:
This was actually his idea.  We want to start doing some of those "someday we should..." things.  Laugh together.  Play together.  Make time to do more things we enjoy together.

2)  GET MY CHOLESTEROL UNDER CONTROL:
I discussed this in quite some detail in my Wake Up Call post last week.  No need to bore you by rehashing the details. I will be posting a weekly update tomorrow.

3)  AT LEAST DOUBLE MY ETSY SALES FOR  LAST YEAR:
Last year wasn't a bad year for Queen B's Busy Work,  but it wasn't exactly what I would call stellar either.  I plan to make efforts to at least double last year's numbers.

When You Buy a Hat, I Give a Hat

I debated with myself for a while over whether or not to post about this here.  But finally after much prayerful consideration I have decided to share with you all something I am trying to do through my Etsy shop, Queen B's Busy Work.

Along with your help.

Pumpkin Hat
puppy hat
For every hat purchased from Queen B's Busy Work between now and December 31, 2014 - I will create and donate a children's hat for a pediatric cancer patient.

Candy corn hat
Simple as that... Someone buys a hat - I give a hat.

So, please... keep Queen B's Busy Work in mind as you do your baby shower, birthday, holiday shopping.  If you feel compelled - spread the word about the promotion.

And Thank You in advance for helping me put a smile on the face of a child!

Chunky Blue Cowl

Chunky Blue Cowl Scarf

The colors of this yarn brought to mind a clear, cold, winter sky. That's how I knew it had to be crafted into a big warm chunky cowl!

Approximately 11 inches wide.

Handcrafted without following a formal pattern. One of a kind!
