Weekly Goals: Need To vs Want To

Last week was another good week.  Did I mark everything off my to-do list?  No.  Did I accomplish my top 3 priorities? Let's have a look...

  • Complete and mail 2 orders  Check! ✔
  •  Create September graphics for the blog  Not completely, but I made a good start on them.
  •  File sales tax for Etsy shop  Check! ✔  (whew...)

This is exactly why it is so important to prioritize your goals!  You may not have time to accomplish everything you would like, but you know that the really important things are being completed.  First things, first.

When setting goals, separate your need to do items from your want to do items.  Need to do's should come first.  You may even have to prioritize the need-to's.  For example,
I needed to complete 2 orders if I want to stay on schedule and get all my orders shipped out on time.  I wanted to create September graphics for the blog, but I knew I have some wiggle room on that since it's only the beginning of August.  But, if I hadn't filed my sales taxes with the state by the last day of July - that could spell big trouble!  Which is why it was the top priority in my list of goals for last week.

I don't get to babysit the grand kid this week, so I am hoping to get a lot of work done.  Especially on orders for the shop, pre-planning for the blog, and maybe finally complete the work in my office.  All of that would be nice.  But, here are my priorities for the week:

  • Complete and mail 2 orders for the Etsy shop
  • Take photos for Etsy shop
  •  Create Sunday Inspiration posts for next month

Did you meet your goals last week?  What's on your To Do list this week?

Keeping On, Keeping On

Another week, come and gone.  I can't say it was a great one as far as my health and fitness goals.  Not terrible.  But there continues to be room for improvement.  See for yourself -

  • Drink the recommended amount of water each day: I am drinking more water than I used to.  But I'm still not getting the recommended amount most days.
  • Exercise at least 3 days this week: you know what they say - 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
  • NO soft drinks!: Check!  Yah me!
  • Make an appointment for an eye exam:
  • Plan for 3 day juice fast: I think is going to start next week.  Got to get through the male offspring's birthday weekend first.
I refuse to beat myself up for not getting each goal perfect. Rather to brush myself off, and move ahead.  It's a work in progress, right?

 This week's goals:
  • Drink the recommended amount of water each day
  • Exercise at least 3 days this week
  • NO soft drinks
  • Prepare to start juice fast next week

A Week of Good Intentions

So, last week was kind of a mixed bag - full of good intentions, but not exactly the fulfillment of many goals. I'd like to blame this on the fact that I was trying to manage a fierce sinus headache for 3 days in a row last week.  But to be honest, the headache can't be held responsible for some most of the goals not being met.  See what I mean...
  • Eat a healthy breakfast every morning (typing this as I finish a bowl of shredded wheat with banana, strawberries, and skim milk because I realized the leftover cheesecake in the fridge didn't really meet the "healthy" criteria) - Yes!  This one I managed to accomplish.  Although I'm not sure the french toast the male offspring made for me on Saturday fits into the "healthy" category, it was breakfast.  And most days I had either some sunflower butter toast and fruit, yogurt with berries and walnuts, or cereal with skim milk fruit.
  • Drink the recommended amount of water each day - turns out this is a lot more difficult than it sounds.  I'm still working on it, but not quite getting to that recommended amount most days.
  • Exercise at least 3 days this week - ahem... no.  I only made it to the gym once.  A combination of laziness and that pesky headache.
  • NO soft drinks! - I actually did pretty well on this one.  I slipped up only once, when the female offspring and I grabbed lunch while shopping at Sam's Club.  I filled up my cup with some Dr. Pepper and gulped it down without even thinking about the "no soft drinks" rule.  Oops!
  • Use neti pot before bed each night - No.  I used it two nights, and on the others I just didn't.  I didn't think about it a few nights.  And on some of the nights I thought about it, I was just too tired to deal with mixing up the solution.
  • Make an appointment for an eye exam - Another no.  No good reason.  Just didn't do it.
Bleh... seeing it all spelled out like that makes me realize that there is great room for improvement. Yep, got to do better than that!  Let's see what I can manage this week...
  • Drink the recommended amount of water each day
  • Exercise at least 3 days this week
  • NO soft drinks!
  • Make an appointment for an eye exam
  • Plan for 3 day juice fast

Keeping Up The Motivation

I'm sure you're all eagerly awaiting an update on how I did with my goals for last week.  (No, I know you're not really - but let me have my little delusion, OK? Thanks)  So, here's an overview:
  • Drink more water eh... a few days I did really well, others - not so much.
  • Exercise at least 3 times  I'm not even sure how to judge this.  I only exercised 2 days; but on one of those days I worked out twice (am and pm)  So, I think I'm counting it as accomplished.
  • Walk a total of at least 5 miles Check!!
  • Get cards/packages in the mail  Um... no. Maybe this week.
  • Finish a craft project (and blog about it!)  Project completed.  Blog will be written and posted soon at A Wise Woman Once Said...
  • Have dinner as a family - at the table - every day except Thursday Was right on track with this - but then we had pizza in front of the TV on Friday.  And it sort of went downhill from there.
For this week, I'm feeling health conscious and keeping to that theme for my goals. Trying to keep up the motivation I'm feeling after having to buy some new pants this weekend because so many of my others keep sliding down and I'm too old to pull of the pants-riding-below-my-hips look (not that anyone can really successfully pull off that look)
  • Eat a healthy breakfast every morning (typing this as I finish a bowl of shredded wheat with banana, strawberries, and skim milk because I realized the leftover cheesecake in the fridge didn't really meet the "healthy" criteria)
  • Drink the recommended amount of water each day
  • Exercise at least 3 days this week
  • NO soft drinks!
  • Use neti pot before bed each night
  • Make an appointment for an eye exam

What's To Do: Update

I am quickly finding that since I am watching the grand baby in the afternoons while his mother is in classes, I am not getting much done at all.  I have to hurry to get the day to day things not on these to-do lists done in the morning.  And I'm not doing so great at that either!  Yikes!!
  • Tape and compound new drywall to get ready for painting next weekend   Well, someone did it.  I'm not going to pretend it was me.  I helped a little.
  • Take down pictures, clean and spackle other walls for painting  Yep.  And I just realized this morning I missed an entire wall.  What?
  • Work on Christmas present  My crochet focus this week as it turned out was helping with the grand baby's halloween costume.
  • Walk 2 times   well.....   1 time.....
  • Pick up some mugs for new project  Nope. I looked at some mugs.  And decided a trip to the dollar store is in order.
  • Figure out where all the note pads for my To Do lists keep disappearing to!  NO clue.  None.  I think all my notepads are in cahoots to run off together.  Somewhere there is a happy little land full of my notepads.

A Brand New Week: Update

Ok, let's review.  Since I hardly even left the house this week, you would think I must have gotten a lot accomplished inside, right?   Yeh... you would think that.

To Do List for October 15 - 19:
  • Write everyday Check!!
  • Work on Christmas presents Well, I started to work on a Christmas present.  And quickly realized that I needed a crochet hook size I didn't have (as impossible as that seems, it's true!)  I do have the hook now, and am ready to roll!  OH... I did pick up a Christmas present.  Does that count?
  • List a few new items on Queen B's Busy Work CHECK!!  (please check them out at Queen B's Busy Work!)
  • Start painting projects on dining room furniture I took some "before" pictures and took the hardward off one piece, so I am counting that as "starting".
  • Catch up on laundry  Still working on that one.  The laundry pile seems to grow as fast as I can wash it (or faster)  I think it may be regenerating on its own.
  • Walk at least 2 days  Nope.  Walked one day.
  • Go to library  I didn't personally go to the library. But the female offspring took her brother and picked up my hold, so I'm calling it done.

In Review

I'm going to pretend the To Do list for last week just didn't even exist.   It wasn't a good week.

The week started with me feeling some cold symptoms.  I was congested, sneezy, scratchy throat, headachey, and just feeling generally - blah!

Things went down hill from there.

I did get lots of help from the family to get the house cleaned up as we prepared for my sisters to visit this past weekend.  They were especially industrious and helpful and I can't begin to tell them how much I appreciated it!

Wednesday evening I ended up in the emergency room.  We were scurrying around, trying to get some last minute things done before my sister and niece arrived.  My chest started getting tight with an asthma attack.  I used my rescue inhaler.  No improvement.  I started sipping a cup of coffee.  Things got tighter.  I stepped outside to see if some fresh, cool evening air would help.  Kept getting tighter.  I was having a lot of trouble moving air.  This is when I got scared.  The Man of the House rushed me to the hospital.  (fortunately we live less than 2 miles away).

Less than 1 and 1/2 hours, 3 nebulizer breathing treatments, and a steroid shot later - we were headed home.

Once the company started arriving - all other To Do's just disappeared off the list.  It was all about spending time with my sisters and nieces!

  • Write everyday

This Week - What's Going On: UPDATE

It was a long, stressful, unusual week here at the homestead.  So I'm not going to beat myself up about anything that did or did not get done.  As a matter of fact - I'm not even going to make comment on whether I achieved my goals or not for the past week.  (the answer is "not")

  • Keep up with laundry

Update: Maybe This Week

So, let's review.  The goals for the first week in July didn't go so very well.  Did the second week end on a more positive note?

Weekly Goals for July 8 - July 13, 2012

  • Write everyday.  Well, I blogged everyday.  But not much creative writing happened.
  • Complete Etsy orders and get into mail by Thursday  YES!  Filled and shipped!
  • Get that mani/pedi that never happened last week  As a matter of fact - I didn't get out to get a professional mani/pedi.  But I did take some time out to give myself one this week.  So, I'm counting it as done.
  • Clean up kitchen (including cleaning out fridge) I worked on it.  But didn't get as much done as I had planned. So we'll call it half.
All in all, not too bad.  More done than not, I think.  Things seem to be improving in the goals area.  Yah me!

So Much To Do, Not Enough Time!

Well, looking back on my goals for this past week  - things aren't looking so great.  I felt very upbeat and optimistic about it, until I reviewed.  Blah... better luck next week.  Here's a quick update:

Weekly Goals for July 2 - July 6, 2012

  • Write everyday.   Yah!  I did manage to meet at least ONE of the goals for this week! :)
  • Get dining room and back porch cleaned up.  Well, sorta.  Kinda.  OK, not so much.  It's cleaner than it was.
  • Complete 3 pairs of flip flops   Good progress, but not quite complete.
  • Start new crochet project for Queen B's Busy Work   I started a new crochet project, but I think it will end up being for me rather than going up for sale.
  • Find time to go get mani/pedi   It's the thought that counts?  Right?
